In the Meiji era, as photography became popular with the general public, the enjoyment of projecting snapshots taken on a large screen became popular, and in line with this, Bausch + Lomb developed a slide projector called Balopticon and entered the field of still image projection. This projector, along with glass slides, has become widespread in schools, universities and citizens' groups.
