Q-TIPS Sterilized Swabs & 1940c Product Manual - Made in USA
New condition SEALED box of Q-Tips sterilized double tipped swabs manufactured under the original patents by Q-Tips Inc. based in New York.
"The Swab of 100 Uses"
Box of (18) swabs measures only 3 1/2" X 1 7/8" X 7/16", two piece box design with cello seal over the swabs and folded product manual placed under lid.
Dating of the box/product is estimated to the period 1940-1944
based on the the 1940 copyright on the product manual, the three patents noted on box (latest dated 1933, #1921604) and the use of the Q-Tips New York entity. This was the period Q-Tips was in a legal battle with J&J over multiple claims and counter-claims regarding nearly every aspect of this product from the name, to the machines that made them, to the product itself. The manual dating is straightforward, the other items are all significant due to the importance of protecting the integrity of the patents by Q-Tips owners. Additionally, the same graphics were used on bulk boxes of swabs used during WWII with added graphics to support the troops and war effort.
The sealed cello covering for the box is marked "Shellmar"
with two 1932 patent numbers, #1867314 & #1867405, see picture #10. Shellmar is notable for their development of method to print on cellophane which eventually included cigarette packages and WWII K-Rations.
The box is new, undamaged condition with the interior cello seal still in place. The box and manual have zero defects - they've been sealed and stored in a box for the last 75+ years. Please see all pictures for full condition details.
